Our Purpose

The purpose of the AA Bridge The Gap/Temporary Contact Person Program is to connect a newly released Treatment Facility client or Incarcerated member with AA in their community when they are released. When a soon to be released member contacts us, we match them to an AA 'Bridge' (a Temporary Contact Person) in their community. (In most areas of North America the Corrections 'Bridge' process is known as the 'Corrections Prerelease Contact Program' - see below).

Some Information to Assist You

The following links are for informational purposes only. The 'Snake River H&I BTG/TCP Program' pamphlet will assist you in understanding your role in the program. It also assists the confined AA member to understand how the program works. The 'Snake River H&I BTG Contact' card is used by a Treatment Facility Client to request a 'Bridge'.

The "Bridge" Process

> Members in long term (Prison) incarceration are eligible for the Bridge the Gap Program if they have less than six months to serve. Due to the shorter turn around time for Members who are in Jails and Treatment Facilities, those members should contact the BTG/TCP program as soon as they know their release date.
> Member fills out and mails the Bridge the Gap Application to the BTG/TCP Coordinator who are responsible for coordinating all 'Bridges'.
> Bridge Coordinator notifies the Member when the application is received and is being processed.
> The Bridge Coordinator matches the Member with a Bridge Volunteer (TCP).
> BTG/TCP Coordinator informs the Member that a 'Bridge' has been established with the TCP Volunteer.
> The TCP Volunteer writes the Member as soon as possible to confirm contact and willingness to 'Bridge'. A TCP Volunteer does not need to use their own mailing address and may use the BTG/TCP address. If a TCP Volunteer has not contacted the Member within two weeks they need to notify the Bridge Coordinator.
> The Member will then inform the TCP Volunteer of all pertinent information such as date of release, local address and telephone number.
> The TCP Volunteer will meet the released Member at the time, date and place agreed upon through their communications. The TCP will accompany the newly released Member to their first few local AA meetings.

Corrections
Correspondence
a special kind of A.A. Service

We are in need of A.A. members on the “outside” to correspond with A.A. members in correctional facilities.

If you would like to share your experience, strength and hope with A.A.s who are confined, please click on the link below to open a PDF file of the Corrections Correspondence pamphlet (also availble from the subcommittee). This is the very beginning of the "Bridge The Gap" process.

If you wish not to use your own mailing address, you may do this service work through the Snake River H & I Subcommittee P.O. Box.
